ANATOMY OF A PRODUCTION: Hummingbirds, Magic in the Air
Nature/Thirteen (Premiere Screening)

Hummingbirds represent one of nature’s most interesting paradoxes: they are the tiniest of birds, yet they qualify as some of the toughest and most energetic creatures on the planet.  New knowledge gained from scientists currently making great breakthroughs in hummingbird biology makes this a perfect time to focus on these shimmering, flashing jewels of the natural world. Stunningly beautiful high-definition, high speed footage of hummingbirds in the wild combined with high-tech presentations of their remarkable abilities help us to understand the world of hummingbirds as we never have before.

Original Sound Design and Sound Edit by Brian Beatrice, it will have its television premiere on WNET/Thirteen 0n January 10th, 2009.

On December 8th, Brian Turner will host Gnaw for an in-studio live performance on his weekly WFMU radio program. Brian describes his show as “Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around.” Gnaw should fit right in.

WFMU-FM is a listener-supported, non-commercial radio station broadcasting at 91.1 Mhz FM in Jersey City, NJ, right across the Hudson from lower Manhattan. It is currently the longest running freeform radio station in the United States. Besides all that, it’s one of the best stations in the world.

Gnaw, Earthen Grave – featuring Ron Holzner from doom legends TROUBLE and virtuoso violinist Rachel Barton Pine , and Iron Man, Saturday, December 05th, 2009, Europa. It’s a fairly early show as they clear the club promptly at 10pm to get the dance party underway. Expect Gnaw onstage at 9PM.

Slightly More Info.

I finally got around to posting my interactive sound experiment from last month’s Bionic party. I think this yielded some remarkable, if sometimes haunting, results. Thanks to all for participating and I’m sorry you can’t enjoy it in its surround sound glory as it was originally presented. I guess you’ll just have to come by Bionic for another go at it for that. I cut it down to CD length because I know you’ll all want to download it and burn it for your discman. Anyone needing 45 minute cutdowns for the cassette walkman, let me know, but just remember; Metal Type II, Dolby NR – OFF!.

Enjoy (…or not. You know I never make it easy for you)! Click the link below.

Bionic East Sound Tank

Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, Dinosaur Jr – the Farm, Hellhammer, the XX, Sunn O))) – Monoliths and Dominions, the Pitchfork 500, although not recommended – it has no flow and its ridiculously broad scope leaves itself easily exposed for target practice.
